Environment Re-worked

Finalised the 3 seating designs with a few other alterations on the second page. Also reworked the environment taking away the building elements and vectoring the lines (image on presentation boards for the crits was pixelated)

Photos for Mock ups

After the crits feedback I feel we needed a better representation of scale / function for the chairs so we took these photos today. I previously used an image of google but it was hardly a suitable reference, the final mock up with go alongside the other i's previously mocked up into the student environment. The second image shows all the different ways people can sit on the i's...

Wrap Around

I spent the morning taking photos of the paper to go on the concept boards. Although the photos were to a reasonable quality I still feel it was necessary to edit it on photoshop (image at the top) to add the shadow and rework the background. I am starting to understand how I can utilise these proposal skills to my own work, I will have a revamp of my portfolio tonight using photoshop to get the most out of my images.

In context

Finally managed to get some decent photos of the paper in the shops to show how it stands out. This is the main aspect of the campaign as it utilises the information we collected on when and why people buy specific papers or magazines. Also as this was on the only thing that we could print out of our proposals we felt it was necessary to get a good quality set of photos.

Website Re-design

While I covered the app side of the design Dom completed his reworking of the website fitting with the app and colour coding system of the paper. He also mocked them up ready for the presentation boards.

Poster Re-worked

The crit feedback suggested that we take off the white space on the page and stick with the approach used on the cover, I recreated the designs and applied them to some of the same mock ups. I didn't feel it was necessary to do both bus stops again, but the new design is far more effective in delivering the same message across all fonts of the campaign.

Poster Mock Ups

After completing the poster designs I have mocked them up into context, I applied a few shadows and approaches using photoshop to get the most realistic images possible. Also used copies of sections of the images and turned down the opacity to give the impression of a reflection.

Poster Development

Different poster variations - need to organise my type hierarchy and make huge improvements over all. I will go back to the start and refine my original ideas before trying to generate them on the computer.

'i'n the environment

Mocked up into the student environment, although I feel this works I want to redraw the situation on illustrator to get the desired professional imagery for the presentation boards.

i Environment

I have been thinking about how we could develop the idea of the i's in the student environments. The rest of the visual campaign can be completed through print - bill boards / bus advertisements etc. We felt the environment needed to have more of an engaging element, I drew up some design sheets and realised the shape could be utilised and developed into a series of chairs. Initially I was going to draw up multiple i's but I feel just the one could be more appropriate, could always be done in different colours from this design. I have added my annotations to the document as its easier than pointing out what changes I have made and why.

Seating i's?

I felt the i's that were going to placed into student environments had little to no relevance to the rest of the campaign. I have been generating different ideas and thinking about how they could be more interactive and engaging.

The new ideas allow people to sit down, read a paper and then return it reducing the costs of the campaign. It also works with the pull out and rest of the campaign because of the repeated i's. Initially I was only going to do one but to maintain consistency with the rest of the campaign I created a few variations. This also fits with a greater variety of students, as if they are in groups then can sit on the more socially interactive seats. I will mock up these designs on the computer and develop them further.

(I won't upload images this bad EVER again)

Note Experiments

Trying to visualise how we could apply the same colour scheme used in the tessellated pattern Dom created. This isn't my usual approach but I will see how I can develop them through layouts for the wrap around designs.

App Proposals

As a progression from our discussions about gaining a broadened student readership, we thought re-designing the app would be another appropriate deliverable. The new app design offers a simplified version of icons and subject matters sticking with the colour coding system. I wanted some professional, presentable images for the presentation boards, this approach was somewhat out of my comfort zones but I has taught me a lot about dealing with building up layers and adding depth.

App Ideas

Mock up drawings

One of the deliverable's was using large scale models of the i logo and dotting them around campus, sticking with the colour scheme and subject matter as the paper. We want this space to provide somewhere for students to engage with the paper and encourage them to get involved online. This is a similar way to how we plan on presenting the final images on the presentation boards but a much neater version delivering a clear perception of what we have envisaged.

Imagery Decisions

I have been thinking about the different visuals that we could use for the newspaper covers, these are some of the notes based around the different sections of the paper. I wanted to avoid mis preconceptions of each subject as the students are highly likely to know more about each that I do.

Todays Notes

Thinking about student environments and a breakdown of how newspapers are analysed, trying to colour code everything to keep myself a bit more organised. In the deliverables section I have been questioning myself why I have been making decisions (hi lighted in blue and the answer in pink)
