MP3 Experiments

One of the processes we decided on for visualising sound was using a technique that Joe Gilmore mentioned during a seminar / lecture last year. I played around with this while Dom worked on the Sound-waves bar ideas. The technique is fairly simple, changing an .mp3 file to .raw and when it opens in photoshop you can alter the pixels and channels to decipher how the final image will look. Each is individual to the file and is one method of visualising sound.
-
I also explored converting different types of files, even .ttf files from typefaces and ended up with similar results. I will spend the next few days playing around with these experiments and finalizing the visuals for the designs.
-
The second document shows the more abstract processes.
After being systematic with my approach to try and understand how it works I went up in multiples of ten and how the image changed and where patterns started to emerge.
-
It looks as if it condenses and the pixels initially at the bottom get sent further to the top until it reaches a variety of greys white and black pixels.
-
When exploring colour the varieties even within one song are endless but given that we are working in black and white plus stocks the grey tones would work well with different coloured stocks.
