Choice of Spiceface

Now I have the research document for spices I can start thinking about the physical form the project will take. I feel using a serif typeface would appeal to the markets I have been researching into - Selling the product as a gift, a range of experienced chefs / cooks. I feel the Goudy old style is the most interesting and the diamond tittle gives it a unique touch.

I will keep the type the same as it is now for body text, with curvy serifs leading you onto the next letter and word.

For display text however I will create a bespoke / custom typeface by straightening the bottom of the serifs and editing a few of the letters. As this will be for the display text the legibility is less important as it will be printed at larger point sizes.

Below are a few examples of just some quick changes I made on illustrator, I will be using a more traditional / hand drawn process of creating my bespoke typefaces, but wanted something to evidence and show people what I was thinking to gain some feedback.

I would also straight out other parts of the letters such as the tittle on the i (above) I feel this will appeal more to my audience, delivering a clean and professional tone of voice. I also feel there are a few very subtle connotations of spices and cooking using the diamond tittle but this is something I aim to get feedback on.

I will keep the progress of this type development in my type journal as well as my blog.
