Planning Ahead

During today's session we were working out plans for each brief, working out which parts of the design process are the most important. Diving our time through each of the briefs over 10 stages we worked out how much time each part of the individual briefs would take. (taking any problems and time to rework or rethink stages of the design process)

1_ Idea generation
2_ Research & investigation
3_ Concept development & clarification
4_ Design development
5_ Evaluation & selection
6_ Production & resolution
7_ Presentation & submission

Many of the key stages of the design process overlap, sometimes over the entire process. I have taken this into account with consistent evaluation of each project, which I will complete through my PPD and design practice blogs.

Thou Shalt'
-
Production will play a large role in this brief, allowing me to explore a huge variety of printed deliverables. This is a definite portfolio piece, as it allows me to exploit many of my skills and current interests as a designer. I already have quite a set concept but I'm sure it will change surrounding my progress and feedback from this weeks crit, so I have left a lot of time for my concept development.

Typography Sketchbooks
-
The most important part of this brief is the research into typeface design and development of the grids (although a physical process understanding typeface design will have a huge impact on the designs) Also as I have quite a set list of deliverables at the moment I expect it to expand and develop though the design process so I have allowed myself a few weeks of design development and production.

The Science of Spices
-
Although the research and investigation into spices and methods of organisation and categorising are influential parts of this brief the production and exploration of packaging will be the main focus. The physical design aspects of this brief should allow me to solve the problems that I initially set in my brief.
