90 Herbs & Spices

Its taken me a whole day but I have finally managed to bring together all of my research into spices based around how they are categorised and how they would fit into the periodic table. Found it a bit of a struggle getting all the separate bits of information putting them into my own document after a fair amount of triangulation and double checking sources.

I have labelled each spice with a 1 or two letter code relevant to the letters in the name, spices or herbs with two separate words generally use the first letter of each word. Those with one word names use the first two or first and third accordingly in relation to the name / pronunciation of the spice. Essentially making them as easily understandable as possible without their names being present.

I have also catagorised each into one of the 5 taste categories
-
Hot / Amalgamating / Pungent / Tangy / Sweet
-
(apart from a few exceptions - arrowroot being one because it is flavourless and used as a thickening agent) and many herbs are simply categorised as savoury, again this is a problem that will be easier to work out when physically experimenting with the design / layout and simplification of the information.

This document stemmed from my initial experiments of trying to group the existing spices that I had already gathered (about 2/3rds of the way of filling up the periodic table - so I collected the last few and went from there) Evidence of my initial grouping in the images to the left and below...
