InDesign 1

Bleed - To avoid getting any white borders on the edge of prints, standard bleed - 3mm
Slug - Printers Marks, colour bars etc

To change any of this just go to document set up from the file menu.
Facing Pages - Two pages inside facing each other, book format - when you work without facing margins you only get 2 options for margins rather than 4.
2 Page document for a double sided page.
Essentials you need to know how to insert on InDesign - Grid // Text // Image // Shapes // Colour
You have to contain everything in frames / boxes - only create text by dragging the text tool.

To fill a text box with example text (that makes no sense) you can use Text > Fill with Placeholder Text, to give you an idea of how the text will look in terms of typeface point size etc.
The small red square with a cross in it means that the text doesn't fit in the box.

To create text thats linked together, double click the white square around the text box and the symbol in the top left of the image below will come up, from here just click and drag to make a connected box of text. Use W to see a preview without any grids / boxes etc.

Things to consider when taking images from photoshop & Illustrator
Resolution 300dpi // Format - Tiff, PSD, Ai // Colour Mode - CMYK, Greyscale // Actual size

Rectangle frame tool - Then use the place tool to add the image from folder into the document,

Images and vectors appear pixelated because they are only previews from the original documents. They will print in full quality, so you need to make sure that you have all the images in the folder backed up for it to refer to.

The box >Links on the side bar will show you the links to all of the images used in the file. It does this so it doesn't slow down the document when you have a large quantity of images over the pages - e.g. in a magazine with lots of high quality images.

You can change the preview to higher quality images and just to blank grey boxes to avoid slowing InDesign down - LOOK AFTER FILES / TAKE TO PRINT. To change opacity of images its very similar to illustrator - open effects window or use from the top bar. To send images backwards / forward same as illustrator
